Equiyd and NIHB: Launching a New Era of Equine Digital Passports

We are delighted to announce that Equiyd has partnered with the Northern Ireland Horse Board (NIHB) to launch the first fully integrated equine digital passport system in Ireland. As featured in The Irish Field, this marks a transformative moment for both equine governance and welfare in Northern Ireland and beyond.
This initiative positions NIHB as the first Passport Issuing Organisation (PIO) in Ireland to adopt a digitised passport system, with Equiyd providing the powerful technology behind it. The platform will revolutionise how horse owners, breeders, and regulators manage equine identity, ownership, and compliance.
"This is about far more than replacing paper," says Michelle Lea, one of the founders of Equiyd. "It’s about creating a lifetime digital record that protects the horse and empowers the people who care for them."
Why This Matters
Traditional equine passport systems rely heavily on paperwork, siloed data, and inconsistent processes that can compromise traceability, compliance, and ultimately, welfare. With Equiyd’s technology, horses registered through NIHB will now benefit from:
Secure, tamper-proof digital records
Real-time updates on ownership, vaccinations, and key health events
Integrated compliance with government, EU, and industry standards
Streamlined data sharing across breeders, vets, and authorities
Importantly, this solution doesn’t just benefit regulatory bodies—it’s designed with the horse at the centre, ensuring every equine has a lifetime record that travels with them from owner to owner.
A Commitment to the Future
This launch is just the beginning. Equiyd is committed to supporting the NIHB in onboarding over 30,000 horses, as well as driving digital adoption across the wider Irish equestrian sector.
We are proud to be leading the way in making digital equine identity and welfare tools accessible, secure, and future-focused—for breeders, owners, federations, and most importantly, for the horses themselves.
Stay tuned as we continue to expand this initiative and bring the benefits of equine digital transformation to every corner of the industry.
